Opening Day Annual Spring Plant Sale
May

Opening Day Annual Spring Plant Sale

The Farm, Market and Greenhouse officially opens Friday May 9th and continues every Saturday and Sunday, 11AM-4PM, ‘till all our plant babies have found a home!

We grow all our own plants for the farm right here! and while we’re at it we grow some for you too! Veggies, culinary and medicinal herbs, flowers that are edible and/or make natural dyes, there’s always an interesting variety.

It starts with certified organic seeds from companies like Hudson Valley Seed Co. Fruition Seeds and Strictly Medicinal Seeds, then certified organic potting soil from McEnroe Farm to make soil blocks. Cute little half inch cubes of soil where the seeds germinate. Tended on light racks under acrylic domes, they grow and when developed enough they graduate to 2 inch blocks then on to traditional 4 inch pots and into our beautiful 1860’s greenhouse. This technique reduces plastic waste, creates denser root systems through a natural process called air pruning, and subsequently lessens root shock during transplanting. It takes a little extra work but we find the results worth it. Healthier plants and less waste!

When shopping here you may notice some pots have faded writing, or scratched, worn surfaces - this is because we reuse our pots year after year for as long as possible. We encourage you to bring them back to us after you’ve planted your garden so we can do it again!

Come for a visit. Wander the grounds, see some art, have a bite to eat, shop the market and the plant sale. Soak up the vibe.

We love what we do and we love to talk about it! So come ask questions, share stories and explore our little magical world of plants

From the artist

This co-created residency is personal: It's reckoning & roots. My first bedroom was in a clay studio on a nowhere, dirt Colorado road. My father built a high-fire kiln in the back yard & my mother biked up to the foundry to pour molten bronze for sculptures herself. We had sheep, chickens, a llama named Snooder, & grew our own food. I've traveled quite a bit since then, when NYC was a myth like college--let alone studying Arabic Calligraphy in Istanbul or oil painting in Santiago de Chile. Works in the "Legacy Works" silent auction are those of my parents--ceramics & life drawings.

I need you to help me create a trust supporting artists brave enough to excavate & transform their own legacies, whatever they may be, & to solidify ways to pass it on.... The first step for me is to bronze the moulds of my mother's I still have--upping scale, pricepoint, & visibility.

At the very least, this soirée is one of legacy, intimacy, earth, subtle savoring, elegant organic eats & community-centered hospitality.

If you're new to the arts--come: Welcome to networking with a pulse.

With gratitude to you & yours,

Jena
